I was fined because the GPS tracker was not working properly. What should I do?
The user must ensure that at the time of paying for the ticket with Telpark s/he is in the correct district, and make changes if necessary. The phone is subject to errors which may result in deviations in radius of up to 65 metres in GPS tracking.
The app uses the mobile device’s GPS (the data provided by it) to help plot your position when you are purchasing your parking ticket. It is not the app that finds your position, but the phone which passes the coordinates to the app.
The performance of the app is affected in situations where your position is near (< 50m approx.) the boundary of a district; in order to avoid errors as far as possible, please note the following:
- In these cases, the app does not automatically select the district and will request the user to do so, because the app itself cannot determine it accurately.
- Only when you are further than 50 metres from the boundary of a district can the app perform the operation automatically.
This, of course, depends on the accuracy of the GPS and given that the GPS has an error range of 65m, it is always going to be further than 50m away from the boundary of the district.
We recommend, therefore, that you always check that you have parked in the correct place; this will be the case with all apps that use GPS, as it is the mobile phone that determines the accuracy of the GPS.
If you disagree with your penalty you can bring the relevant facts to the attention of the city council.
